The Story of Celine

Celine is a luxury fashion house that was founded in Paris in 1945 by Céline Vipiana. Originally a made-to-measure children's shoe business, the brand quickly expanded to include women's shoes and clothing, and later, accessories.

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Celine became known for its simple, elegant designs that combined classic lines with modern details. The brand's signature "sportswear chic" look was a hit with fashion-conscious women around the world, and by the 1970s, Celine had become one of the most sought-after luxury brands in the industry.

During the 1970s, Celine expanded its product line to include jewellery that was both elegant and innovative. The jewellery from this era featured bold designs and high-quality materials that reflected the trends of the time.

Celine's jewellery designs from the 1970s were characterized by a mix of simplicity and opulence. Many of the pieces featured bold geometric shapes, including oversized circular earrings and chunky bangle bracelets.

Celine's jewellery from the 1970s was reflective of the era's trends in both fashion and design. The pieces were designed to make a statement, and were often paired with the brand's iconic clothing designs in vintage ad campaigns.

During the 1980s, Celine began to evolve its accessory offer with jewellery designs from this era characterized by their bold, sculptural shapes. Chunky gold and silver-tone cuffs, necklaces, and earrings were popular, often featuring intricate cutouts and abstract forms. Celine also introduced enamel and rhinestone pieces in the 1980s, incorporating colorful geometric shapes and graphic patterns into their designs.

In  the 1990s, Celine continued to evolve under the leadership of designer Michael Kors and later, Phoebe Philo. Kors brought a youthful, vibrant energy to the brand's designs, while Philo's tenure was marked by a focus on minimalism and understated sophistication.

Today, Celine is led by creative director Hedi Slimane, who has brought his own unique vision to the brand's collections. Known for his rock-and-roll aesthetic and love of bold, edgy designs, Slimane has injected new life into the brand, appealing to a new generation of fashion lovers while staying true to the brand's identity and heritage.

Throughout its history, Celine has remained committed to quality, craftsmanship, and timeless style. From its early days as a children's shoe business to its current status as a globally recognized luxury fashion brand, Celine has always been a symbol of sophistication, elegance, and beauty.
